The Federated States of Micronesia joined the United Nations in 1991, five years after independence. As a small island developing state (SIDS), FSM champions climate change advocacy at the UN, where rising sea levels pose an existential threat to its low-lying atolls. The mission participates in the Pacific Islands Forum bloc and Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), pushing for ambitious emissions targets and climate financing. Ambassador Jane Jimmy Chigiyal leads the mission, continuing FSM's diplomatic tradition of amplifying Pacific voices on environmental and sustainable development issues at UN headquarters.
